Questions and answers

How do I get a good scan?

Lay the drawing flat in good, even light, without your own shadow across it. Drawings with clear, dark outlines on white paper work best. The scanner finds the edges of the paper by itself; leave a little space between the figure and the edge.

An arm or a leg is missing. What do I do?

On the cutout screen, use Add to paint the missing part back with your finger, and Erase to remove anything extra. On the skeleton screen, drag the dots onto the head, hands and feet, or tap Find again. If the drawing really has no arm, leave its dots together at the shoulder.

Which iPhones can use AR?

AR needs an iPhone with ARKit, which every iPhone that runs iOS 17 has. Point the camera at a table or the floor in good light and move the phone slowly until the figures appear.

Why does it ask to record the screen?

When you record in AR, iOS asks for permission to record the app's screen. Tap Allow. The microphone is never used, and the recording stays on your iPhone. Recording on the stage needs no permission.

Where are my videos saved?

Tap Save to Photos and the video goes into your photo library. Levende can only add to it; it can't see your other photos. You can also share the video straight from the app. Your figures stay in Levende until you delete them.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Levende has no network access at all: no account, no cloud, no analytics. Drawings, photos and videos stay on your iPhone.

Can I cut out photos too?

Yes. Pick a photo of a teddy, a pet or a person, and save the cutout with a transparent, white, coloured or blurred background at full resolution. Or give it a skeleton and let it dance.

Which iOS do I need?

iOS 17 or later, on iPhone.

Which languages does Levende speak?

English, Danish, Japanese, German, French, Spanish and Korean. The app follows your iPhone's language; you can pick another one in the iPhone's Settings › Levende › Language.

How does it work?

Levende is inspired by published research on animating children's drawings, rebuilt from scratch to run entirely on the iPhone. The cutout, the skeleton, the moves and the video are all made on the device.

What does it cost?

Nothing. If you'd like to give something back, you can become a supporter inside the app and get the show-off icons and a silly little game.

How do I get my supporter icons back on a new phone?

Open Settings in Levende and tap Restore Purchase, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with.
